A picture can tell a thousand words – my 200th AFL game

A picture can certainly tell a thousand words.

For me this picture sums it all up, a Captain, a Coach and a President, the three men who I would say most in the club look up to.

For anyone that might be new around here, I have been involved with AFL Sydney for the past 9 years, I remember the very first game I covered it was on the 12th April 2008, the Balmain Dockers were playing the UNSW-Eastern Suburbs Bulldogs, I recognised a few familiar ex Sydney Swans players and felt so privileged to be covering a game I loved on a personal level, now on a professional level.

Fast Forward to the 17th September 2016 and the Premier Division Grand Final and I just realised that this was my 200th game of AFL I covered everything from Charity events, Representative games in Victoria, Canberra and Cairns, the Under 16’s National Championships, the NEAFL competition, and was fortunate enough to cover the main national AFL competition, I produced a photo book for the East Coast Eagles called ‘Three’ (which is still available btw 🙂) and witnessed so many highs and lows, however the Premier Division Grand Final was by far and away the most rewarding and courageous example of football I had ever covered, I got to see a club that was at the brink of collapse a few years ago come out and show true class and fight, a spirit to win like I hadn’t seen before, they dominated from the get go and got stronger as the final siren drew closer.
